Lismore and the Northern Rivers should see some rain and potential storm activity this afternoon which will persist into the evening.
Kate from the Bureau of Meteorology told the Lismore App that 10mm is on the cards for today with a further 20mm to 30mm each day over the weekend.
"We have an inland trough that is drawing moisture from the north and also getting a kick from an upper-level enhancement to encourage storm and shower activity today, into the weekend and into next week," Kate said.
"Currently, there are storms rolling through the northwest slopes and across the tablelands. We've seen falls around 15mm northwest of the slopes with Inverell recording 21mm as rain continues to fall."
Across the weekend, the rainfall will vary due to the storm activity and which part of the Northern Rivers it occurs, hence the wide ranges, Saturday 2 to 20mm and Sunday 5 to 30mm.
"When we see these sort of conditions it is a bit hit and miss," Kate said.
When the storms do hit the winds will be gusty and there is the possibility of thunderstorms, some severe, but mostly to the west. Outside of the storms, the winds will be 15-25 km/h.
"The showers will ease as we get into Tuesday and Wednesday next week as the trough moves back towards the west, however, the showers will linger."
Temperatures will remain in the mid-20s until Thursday next week.
