Teams locked in and stage set for Legends of the Game 20/20 cricket picnic day

The teams for this Saturday’s Legends of the Game 20/20 cricket picnic day are now confirmed. The Mayor’s 11 will face off against Gilly’s 11 in a 20/20 match at Oakes Oval, with both teams featuring some of Australia’s cricketing greats.

Lismore City Mayor Steve Krieg said he has been hitting the nets in preparation for Saturday’s matchup.

“The Mayor’s 11 is looking really good for this weekend. It’s been a while since I have picked up the bat, but I am confident that with some of the cricketing legends in my team, we will give Gilly’s 11 a run for their money,” he said.

“This is going to be a great event for Lismore and a continuation of the success of last weekend’s Opening our Heart events.”

The match will be played in the traditional 20/20 format, where each team is allowed one innings to try and score as many runs as they can within a period of 20 overs.

Local sporting icon, Adam Gilchrist, jumped at the chance to pull together a group of his high-profile cricketing mates for a once-in-a-lifetime event to support his hometown of Lismore.

“It’s with great pleasure and honour that myself and a few mates can hopefully provide an afternoon and evening a fun, engagement and a celebration of the extraordinary resilience of this wonderful community,” Adam said.

Lismore cricket legend Lyn Larson will also play an important role on the day, performing the bat flip at the start of the match to decide who will bat first.

The Legends of the Game 20/20 cricket picnic day will be held this Saturday, 11 March at Oakes Oval. Gates open at 1pm, with a pregame match of local junior cricket to be held at 2.15pm. The main event starts at 3pm.

Food vendors will be serving up delicious meals around the oval and local charities and cricket clubs will be cooking BBQs.
