Take a bow Jyllie Jackson and your wonderful band of dedicated volunteers for a brilliant 2023 Lismore Lantern Parade.
Take a bow Lismore and the Northern Rivers for coming out on a warm winter's day and cold winter's night in tens of thousands to truly show NSW and Australia that we are moving forward together as a united community.
The success of the Lantern Parade permeated through to our local businesses who also had a busy day with the tills ringing regularly as attendees supported our local CBD business community.
The Lismore App spoke to retailers selling records and CDs to restaurants who never anticipated being that busy when the day began as many people walked in off the street post Fiery Finale.
As was expected the crowd built slowly through the day enjoying plenty of stalls, family fun, kids spaces and live music.
At 5:40pm, Magellan and Molesworth Streets were lined with thousands of families with blankets and chairs on the road edge waiting for another brilliant display of lanterns that were interspersed by some toe-taping music. It warmed your heart to see so many smiles grace the CBD once again.
Most of the large crowd made their way along Molesworth Street to the riverbank, the traditional home of the Lismore Lantern Parade, with some lining Ballina Bridge to get to the best view of the Fiery Finale.
The massive winter solstice design was front and centre with many in the crowd asking if it will be burnt at the end of a creative story about the journey from the shortest day of the year and the growth to come as the days get longer, all set to an ambient soundtrack.
Sure enough, the Fiery Finale did not let anyone down.
For those that could not make it to the Lantern Parade or the riverbank, the entire design was burnt through at the end.
This year's theme was the Gates of Renewal. Let's hope the 2023 Lismore Lanter Parade provided the optimism that is needed by our community as we reimagine our city in the years ahead.
Again, take a bow Lismore.
