Sunshine Conference ready to tip off

The 2024 Sunshine Conference Basketball competition tips off this weekend.

The new season will be the biggest yet, with 8 men's teams and 4 women's teams competing in the home and away competition, with Finals scheduled in December.

New men's teams from Casino and Yamba have entered the competition that stretches from Coffs Harbour and Bellingen in the south to Byron Bay in the north.

The Lismore Storm will field a Men's and Women's team, with both teams looking to raise the premiership banner in the newly renovated Albert Park stadium.

The Men's team will open their season on Saturday night when they travel Casino to take on the Kings at 5:00pm.

The team is coached this season by Jacob Richardson and has recruited well, with former Byron Bay players Toby and Jye Barlow being added to the talented roster.

The brothers will look to spark a Storm side that have also added returning "veteran" Zac Knight.

The talented Jordan Pethers, Elwood Bird and Kaleb Jeffery will continue to be solid contributors for the Storm.

In other opening round matches, the Bellingen Valley Braves host Byron Bay in a replay of the 2023 Grand Final and Coffs Harbour will travel to Yamba for their match on Saturday night.

On Sunday, Coffs will play Grafton and Ballina will host Casino.

The Women's competition will play their first round next weekend.
