Storm women play out a tough double header

The Lismore Storm Women's basketball side has played out a tough double header at home across the weekend in the NSW Waratah League.

On Saturday afternoon, the Storm took on the Maitland Mustangs at the Lismore Basketball Stadium.

In a tight encounter, the Storm eventually went down 50-49 in a nail-biting finish.

Emily Simpson and Kiara Richardson top scored with 11 points, with Alissa McWhirter and Makayla Greensill adding 8 apiece.

The side then backed up on Sunday morning to take on the Newcastle Falcons, with the team knowing they had to overcome fatigue after the tough hit out on Saturday.

It was a tight game early, with the Storm taking a narrow lead into both quarter time (12-8) and halftime (23-20).

The strength of the Newcastle side was evident in the second half, with Alison Ebzery (23 points) and Samantha Chicken (22 points) making it tough for the home side.

The Storm found it difficult to score in the final quarter, eventually going down 59-43.

Poppy Latta top scored with 12 points and Makayla Greensill added 8.

The Storm hit the round next weekend when they head to Penrith for another double header, taking on the Canberra Nationals on Saturday and the Murrumbidgee Mavericks on Sunday.

Coach Jacob Richardson will look for more scoring output from his side if they are to add two wins next weekend.
