It was a spirited first half by Lismore when they took on the defending premiers, the Wollongbar Alstonville Pioneers on Saturday.

The Lismore side has shown strong improvement in recent weeks, and it continued against the Pioneers early in the match.

The Greens trailed at halftime 24-10 after a try to Aggrey Leju, which was converted by Cooper Cox, who also slotted a penalty goal.

The signs were positive going into the second half, but it was the experience of the Pioneers that eventually overran the Lismore side, piling on 40 points in the second half to run out 64-10 victors.

It was a vast improvement since Round 4 when the sides last met, with Lismore going down 90-14.

The Lismore Women's side has a strong win over newcomers Kyogle 31-0, with Chloe Sivewright scoring 19 points, with a hat trick of tries after scoring 4 tries last match against Byron Shire.

Next week Lismore will travel north to Casuarina to clash with the Barbarians in all four grades.
