A development application has been lodged for a cheerleading dance studio in South Lismore.
Lismore City Council received the development application for construction of a shed in Foleys Rd to be utilised as an indoor recreation facility earlier this month.
A statement of environmental effects filed with the application said it was anticipated that classes would have up to 12 students with one instructor.
Classes would run between 3.30pm and 8pm with private sessions by appointment during business hours and intermittent weekend classes/training session to prepare for competitions.
“Only a small stereo will be utilised for the playing of music,” the SEE said.
“A cheerleading (dance) studio falls within the definition of a Recreation Facility (indoor) which is a land use permitted with consent within the IN2 Light Industrial zone.”
While the land is classified as “high flood risk” the proponent has suggested that instead of building a mezzanine - which would interfere with the cheerleaders’ acrobatics - a flood refuge platform and evacuation plan would mitigate flood concerns.
The development application is available for public comment on the council’s website until August 28.
