Kevin Handcock, the owner of Skimmo's Takeaway in South Lismore, is not going to lay down and let the iconic shop fade away into Lismore's past.
The petition that employee Tracey started last Thursday had 90 signatures on the first day and by 2:30 this afternoon was up to 240.
(Two of the many pages of signatures that you can sign in Skimmo's Takeaway.)
Boosted by the publics support, Kevin has vowed to fight to keep his business alive as long as he can.
"It certainly has hit a nerve with people" Kevin said, "we've got people coming from Goonellabah just to sign the petition."
"I feel we have to keep the Skimmo's legacy alive with good food and good people," Kevin added.

The proposed site at 135, 137 and 139 Union Street, South Lismore has a Development Application (DA) before Lismore City Council (LCC) to demolish the buildings and construct a new service station. According to the plans lodged with LCC it will be Lismore's first 7-Eleven.
The 7-Eleven will have three (3) petrol bowsers so access for six (6) cars plus an additional nine (9) parking spaces (including a disables car park and an air/water bay) for access to the 7-Eleven shop.
If other 7-Eleven service stations are a model that will be used in Lismore then it will be offering $5 sandwiches, salads and sushi along with $1 coffee and Krispy Kreme doughnuts.
The proposal has the main building with its back to Elliot Road facing down Union Street with separate entrances and exits on Union Street and dual access off Elliot Road s well.
When asked if Skimmo's could move to a new location if the DA was approved, Kevin was adamant with his answer, "No, the location makes the business so no," he said.
Skimmo's will just cease to exist.
On the to do list for Kevin tomorrow is to talk to our Councillors to plead his case for survival.
More to come.
