Shortage of hormone replacement therapy patches hits the region

The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) is advising of a shortage of Estradot (estradiol) hormone replacement therapy transdermal patches due to manufacturing issues.

Estradot HRT patches are used for short-term relief of symptoms associated with menopause.

To assist patients to access medicines during this shortage, the TGA has published Serious Shortage Substitution Notices (SSSNs) for Estradot 25 and Estradot 100 patches.

These SSSNs allow pharmacists to dispense a substitute medicine without requiring patients to get a new prescription from their doctor. The TGA has also authorised five overseas registered medicines for supply in Australia during the shortage.

If you are affected by this shortage, please talk to your pharmacist or doctor about substitutes or alternative products.
