Lismore's Nick Shailes has been a strong contributor for the Aussie Steelers at the Men's Softball World Cup in New Zealand.

Shailes, who is the Vice Captain of the team started the tournament in strong form, adding to wins over Denmark 7 - 0 and a brilliant comeback win against Japan after coming back from 5 - 2 down to win in the 8th inning 6 to 5 against the second ranked team in the world.

In the match against Japan, Shailes had two RBI's for the game, scoring the tiring run in the 7th innings to force the game to a tie breaker. He also made the final out of the game to seal the win.

The Steelers then went on to defeat Venezuela on Monday to set up a clutch match against the undefeated Canadian's in their pool.

Unfortunately for the Shailes and the Steelers, the world number 3 Canadians were too strong on Tuesday running out 6-0 winners.

The Steelers take on South Africa on Wednesday before the playoffs begin on Thursday.

A FNC Softball product, Nick Shailes was voted by Fastpitch World Media as the number one ranked men's player in 2016. He has won 5 International Softball Congress (ISC) World Championships, 3 ISC MVP and 2 ISC Top Hitter awards. Nick was a 2009 ISF World champion.

Schedule:

Wednesday November 30 at 12pm NZDT v SOUTH AFRICA (Ranked 11th)

Super Round and Medal Round (results depending) to follow from December 1.
