Lismore's Nick Shailes and the Aussie Steelers are through to the Championship Final of the 2022 WBSC Men's Softball World Cup in New Zealand.

The Steelers drew Cuba, the USA and Argentina in the tournament's Super Round's and have played outstanding softball to reach their first Final since 2017.

The Aussie side managed a 3-0 victory over Cuba on Thursday, a high scoring 12-9 win over the United States on Friday and Saturday's must win match against Argentina ended exactly how Australia needed, with a 2-0 extra innings victory.

This will be Shailes' sixth World Cup as part of the Aussie Steelers.

The Aussie Steelers will be looking for revenge against Canada after they handed the Steelers their only loss of the tournament in the early rounds with a 6-0 victory.

The last, and only time that Australia won the World Championship game was 2009, and Shailes is one of only two members of the squad that still remain.

The Steelers last appeared in the 2017 World Championship game ended in a 6-4 loss to New Zealand in Canada. This time around it's against Canada in New Zealand.

Shailes is a solid contributor with the bat, with the Steelers boasting eight hitters sitting above a batting average of .250.

Canada possess a strong pitching lineup, and if the Steelers can get on top of the pitching, the vocal, predominantly Australian crowd can hopefully urge them on to a second World Cup victory.

Sunday's World Championship Game will be played at Rosedale Park in Auckland, New Zealand.

The first pitch is at 4pm NZDT / 2pm AEDT on Sunday December 4, 2022.
