Severe thunderstorm warning for Casino, Kyogle and parts of the Northern Rivers

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Large Hailstones for Casino, Kyogle and parts of the Northern Rivers.


An inland trough and southerly change in a moist and unstable airmass are producing severe thunderstorms with large hail. The thunderstorms are moving over the northeast and are likely to produce large hailstones in the warning area over the next several hours.



Locations that may be affected include Casino, Kyogle, Tabulam, Rappville, Whiporie and Copmanhurst. At this time, the severe warning is to the west of Lismore.



This event may change quickly. We will monitor the situation and update our warnings if the situation changes.



The State Emergency Service advises that people should:

  • * Move your car under cover.
  • * Unplug computers and appliances.
  • * Avoid using the phone during the storm.
  • * Stay indoors away from windows, and keep children and pets indoors as well.
  • * Stay vigilant and monitor conditions. Note that the landscape may have changed following bushfires.
  • * For emergency help in floods and storms, ring the SES (NSW and ACT) on 132 500.
