The Bureau of Meteorology are monitoring a weather system developing, that is likely to produce damaging winds, large hail and heavy rain.
This system brings with it the possibility of supercells producing giant hail (greater than 5cm) and destructive winds. The BOM has predicted the Storm Cell to develop and move over the Northern Rivers throughout Wednesday afternoon and evening.
This storm event has the chance of cause flash flooding in low lying areas. The associated large to giant hail and wind has the potential to cause property damage in the storm affected areas.
As a result, residents, and visitors to the Northern Rivers should take extra care to review their home emergency plans and to prepare for possible flash flood and storm impacts
NSW SES is advising residents of the Northern Rivers to prepare their properties for the potential of flash flooding and large hail.
Superintendent Mark Elm advises that “The NSW SES urges all residents and visitors to take the time now to review their properties and prepare them for storm activity by clearing gutters, removing dead branches and any loose items around their properties”.
“NSW SES would like to remind residents that Large Hail from severe storm events can potentially cause significant property damage and once the storm has passed to take caution when inspecting your property”.
“Flash flooding can occur anywhere at any time during severe storm events, especially considering the region has saturated catchments from significant rainfall last week”.
NSW SES volunteers are always well prepared and ready to assist their local communities, however, working together will lead to better outcomes for the whole community. “Do not drive, ride or walk-through flood waters, find an alternate route to yourself and the community safe”, Superintendent Elm advises.
