Local Members Janelle Saffin (Lismore) and Kevin Hogan (Page) are calling on Northern Rivers Reconstruction Corporation David Witherdin to have better communication with the community in 2023.
Ms Saffin and Mr Hogan are both fielding constant questions from their constituents about their housing situation and what they should be doing.
"I was doorknocking yesterday in Dawson Street and a fellow said "what are they doing? what do I do? Do I spend money on my property?"
"People come to my office asking the same questions. We even have people not in flood-affected areas of East Lismore asking for updates on House Buybacks and House Raisings."
"A community-led recovery is responding to our needs and that means our communication needs. The community is rightly anxious and frustrated at the lack of communication and given what our community has gone through they need regular contact, updates and clarity from the NRRC."
"I have worked well with them (NRRC) but their failing is one of communication."
A point shared by Kevin Hogan.
"The whole process is too slow and too bureaucratic," Mr Hogan said.
"This organisation (NRRC) is most important in our recovery and the main message is communication so people know what is happening. The people I talk to in the North and South (Lismore) want to know more details and in a consistent manner."
"The NRRC need to do more in getting their communication to the public."
Ms Saffin penned a letter to David Witherdin in December asking for regular communication on a number of points. The full letter is below:
Mr Witherdin is unavailable for comment until late January, however, the Lismore App has a meeting pencilled in with Executive Director NRRC Kieron Hendicott on Friday to get an update from the NRRC on some of the issues outlined by Ms Saffin above.
