The COVID-19 hits just keep on coming with Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk announcing a 3-day Lockdown for South East Queensland as well as Townsville, Palm Island and Magnetic Island from 6 o'clock tonight.
With school holidays in full swing, there will be a lot of parents and grandparents hunkering down or jumping in the car for the 2-3 hour trip home as the lockdown ruins family plans.
Queensland recorded two new locally acquired cases. One was a miner from Ipswich, a close contact of one of the 170 Northern Territory FIFO workers while the other is an unvaccinated 19-year-old hospital receptionist from the Prince Charles Hospital who travelled through the state while infected.
Chief Health Officer of Queensland Dr Jeannette Young said the 19-year-old developed symptoms on Monday a week ago (June 21) but has been infectious in the community for 10 days (since June 19).
The Premier says the state's current health directives say people who work in COVID wards need to be vaccinated, but the young woman was not. "She was located outside the ward, so for some reason, she wasn't vaccinated," Ms Palaszczuk says.
"There will be a full investigation into that. Let's just say this virus is contagious. It is hard to contain it in hotels and it's hard to contain it in hospitals. That's the truth of the matter."
As per the lockdown rules in Greater Sydney the only reasons to leave the home will be for:
Meanwhile, NSW recorded 19 new locally acquired cases in the last 24 hours with seventeen linked to previously confirmed cases.
One confirmed case a student from Rose Bay Secondary School. The school site will be closed for cleaning and all students and staff asked to isolate until they receive further advice.
