In the last week, the Richmond Police District has charged 41 individuals with 72 offences. Of these, 21 were Domestic Violence (DV) related.
The Top 5 Offences were:
SIGNIFICANT ARRESTS:
1. On Christmas Day, a 30-year-old Tabulam man allegedly assaulted a woman and child after being asked to leave their home. He fled but returned with a metal pole, smashing the victim’s car and damaging the front door while trying to re-enter. Police arrested him and charged him with two counts of domestic violence-related assault, two counts of malicious damage, and armed with intent to commit an indictable offence. An apprehended violence order was issued. He appears before the Casino Local Court on 22 January 2026.
2. On December 12, a 53-year-old Nimbin man allegedly assaulted another man outside the Nimbin Farmers Market following a verbal exchange. The victim was pushed to the ground, kicked, and struck multiple times with beer bottles, causing significant injuries, including lacerations to the face, ear, and arm. On 27 December, the man handed himself into Nimbin Police, where he was arrested and charged with Reckless Wounding and Affray. He appears before the Lismore Local Court on 2 February 2026.
3. On 27 December, police attempted to stop a vehicle with no front registration plate on Ballina Road, Goonellabah. The driver, a 16-year-old young person, allegedly fled at high speed, overtaking vehicles dangerously before being located in Richmond Hill. When arrested 5.09 grams of cannabis were located in his possession. He was charged with drive with suspended licence, drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous and possess prohibited drug, to appear before the Court on 6 February 2026.
4. On 29 December, Police responded to a domestic violence incident in Kyogle involving a 22-year-old man and a woman, a close family member. The man allegedly assaulted the woman before arming himself with a large kitchen knife during a heated argument. The woman and another family member residence as the man pursued them with the knife. Police arrived shortly after, arresting the man. He was charged with armed w/i commit indictable offence, Common assault (DV) and Contravene prohibition/restriction in AVO (Domestic). He appears before the Kyogle Local Court on 16 January 2026.
5. On 31 December, police arrested and charged a 21-year-old man with alleged multiple domestic violence-related offences. Between 15 and 31 December 2025, the man repeatedly breached an enforceable ADVO. Despite conditions prohibiting contact, the man made phone calls, sent multiple text messages and approached the victim. The victim awoke to find the accused standing at their bedroom door. The man fled before police arrived. Later that morning, the man returned and was found asleep on the lounge. The man was arrested and charged with contravene prohibition/restriction in AVO (Domestic) x 2 and knowingly contravene 3rd+ time in 28 days AVO (Domestic) x 3. He appears before the Lismore Local Court on 21 January 2026.
