Richmond Rovers have taken out the FFNC Men's Premier League Pointscore Title after a 1-1 draw with South Lismore on Wednesday night in East Lismore.

The title is the 12th time Rovers have earned the trophy in the clubs history.

South Lismore started strongly, dictating territory and possession in the first 25 minutes of the match.

The Celtics structure had the Rovers defence scrabbling at times, with the home side managing to repel the several strong attacking raids.

Rovers began to wrestle back the momentum and at the 28 minute mark of the first half, Shane Smith hit an unmarked shot from the right hand side after a short pass from Jono See, for Rovers to take the lead 1-0.

Seven minutes later, a 35m shot from Rovers defender Joel Hardwick hit the cross bar, narrowly denying the home side a 2-0 lead.

The second half started in bizarre circumstances, with a Jono See shot in the first minute being deflected by the Celtics defence before the ground was covered in darkness after the lights went out just two minutes into the second stanza.

There was a fifteen minute delay while the lights cooled and then warmed back up ready for action.

The match was then a midfield battle, with both sides testing each other until with just five minutes to go, Celtics Ezra Frost knocked in a goal from close range to tie the match up at 1-1.

It sparked the visitors into a last minute scramble to grab the win and deny Rovers the title but a draw at fulltime was enough.

Oli O’Reilly was strong in the midfield for Rovers and Ethan Allen's speed caused the Celtics defence trouble at times.

South Lismore will take plenty of positives out of the draw after going down 3-0 last week to the same side. Coach Rick Austen will look to pick his players up for their next clash after a spirited outing on Wednesday night.

Rovers will now take on Byron Bay in a Semi Final on Sunday at 2:30pm in East Lismore and Souths will travel to Alstonville in the other Semi Final on Sunday, also at 2:30pm.

Rovers Captain Chris Jones is expected back for the Semi Final after sitting out the match through injury.
