Lismore's Mark Robinson drove a superb race before eventually having to settle for second as Kevin Britten became the first V8 Dirt Modified race driver to claim five Australian Championship wins in a row.

After joining sprintcar legend Garry Rush with four Australian Championship wins in a row in last season’s Australian V8 Dirt Modified Championship at Toowoomba’s Hi-Tec Oils Speedway in Queensland, Britten, from Brisbane, moved into a league of his own tonight with an outstanding performance, Totally Speedway wrote.

Robinson, a three-time Australian champion himself, finished a gallant second after an extraordinary weekend for the Lismore man at Sydney’s Valvoline Raceway.

"Well what a weekend of racing," Robinson Motoring wrote on its Facebook page.

"All started with a rear wheel hub failure in practice on Friday night which caused us to miss the opening heat of the (National) Title while the team worked miracles to fix the damage and get Mark out for the second heat of the night (thanks to all the teams who help to get the damage fixed), with a win in the second heat and a fourth place in the mini feature, that put us 13th in points after night one of racing.

"Then comes night two.

"What a turn around from night one.

"The car and Mark were on fire picking up two heat wins, which gave the team a massive points hall and qualified for the main event out of fourth.

"The main event saw some great racing by all, Mark managed to make his way up to second place with some awesome outside passing. With five laps to go, we had a fuel stoppage to put some fuel in the car to make it to the end. The race got back underway and Mark threw everything he had at Kev and got so close which saw Mark secure second place. Congrats to Kev and the team on five in a row and to our team thanks for the top effort throughout the weekend. To all our supporters thanks for the kind words and support over the weekend.

"A big shoutout to all the sponsors for their support."

The form driver over the Australian Championship was 2014 Australian Champion David Clark who topped the point standings after the opening night and then backed up that form on the second and final night by starting the Australian Championship deciding feature race from pole position, while Britten started on the outside of the front row alongside Clark.

From the green light, Clark and Britten fought hard throughout much of the opening lap before Britten managed to edge ahead. Robinson took second from Clark and then tried to reel in Britten who was helped by stoppages activated at the right time, which denied Britten from having to deal with a whole lot of dense lapped traffic on most occasions and gave him the ideal situation of a clear track.
