Restrictions for regional NSW as Sydney goes into Lockdown

As indicated by Premier Gladys Berejiklian this morning Greater Sydney, Wollongong, the Central Coast and the Blue Mountains will be locked down for two weeks from 6 o'clock tonight.

While this is bad news for over 6 million people in the hotspot areas, it is good news for regional NSW as the state government tries to contain the Delta variant and stop the spread into regional centres throughout the state.

We have not come out unscathed though with the following restrictions coming into place from 6pm:

🟥 Visitors to households will be limited to 5 guests - including children.

🟥 Masks will be compulsory in all indoor non-residential settings, including workplaces, and at organised outdoor events.

🟥 Drinking while standing at indoor venues will not be allowed.

🟥 Singing by audiences and choirs at indoor venues will not be allowed.

🟥 Dancing will not be allowed at indoor hospitality or nightclubs, however, dancing is allowed at weddings for the wedding party only with a cap of 20 people.

🟥 Dance and gym classes limited to 20 per class and masks must be worn.

🟥 One person per four square metre rule will be re-introduced for all indoor and outdoor settings, including weddings and funerals.

🟥 Outdoor seated, ticketed events will be limited to 50%.

Anyone from regional NSW who is has been in Greater Sydney from 21st of June sensibly make their way home and self isolate for 14-days.

The Premier said, "We want to make sure that if there have been any occasions where people unknowingly have taken the virus outside into the regions you don't have any spreads in those regions."

"The best health advice we have is that a two-week lockdown is necessary in order to make sure we get to our target of zero community transmissions."

Chief Health Officer Dr Kerry Chant re-iterated the Premier's words, "We are asking you to stay at home for 14-days after you have left the area. The reason for that is to minimise the risk of transmission to anyone else."

The main reason for this lockdown is the Delta variants transmissibility is at least double what previous variants have been. Everybody in the same household is being infected so NSW Health has warned NSW to brace itself for a potentially larger number of cases in the following days and that is why they need to take action now.
