Resilient Lismore to host community picnic on Sunday

This weekend, the community is invited to gather at Nesbitt Park for an afternoon of music, play and connection at a Community Picnic. It was to have taken place late February, but rain forced a delay.

Hosted by Resilient Lismore, the free event will be held from 4–7pm this Sunday, 15 March at Nesbitt Park, South Lismore.

“Four years on from the 2022 floods that devastated our region, we are hosting this picnic so that our community has a gentle and welcoming opportunity for people to relax, and to connect, and strengthen the local relationships that support recovery and future disaster preparedness.” Said Elly Bird, Resilient Lismore Executive Director.

“When disasters happen, it’s our relationships with each other that make the biggest difference. This picnic is about coming together — not just to remember what we’ve been through, but to strengthen the connections that help us face the future.”

“The afternoon will feature live music from Uncle Billy Smith and Orkeztar Lizmoré, a dance workshop led by Move It, mini golf, water play, arts activities, obstacle courses and family-friendly games.”

“Uncle Gilbert will offer a smoking ceremony, and power for the event will be supplied by Southern Cross University’s Sunflower solar battery system.”

“People are encouraged to bring a picnic rug and basket — and even decorate it — or enjoy the free community BBQ cooked by Lismore Lions, along with fruit and cake. Everyone is welcome.”

“We hold events like this so that our community can get together if they want to, we know it won’t be for everyone because disaster recovery looks different for everyone. So if it sounds like a fun and gentle afternoon, we would love to see you.” She said.
