Record numbers playing at Lismore Workers Golf Club

It's full capacity at Lismore Workers Golf Club today as record numbers of players are playing the 18-hole golf course, the only sporting venue open amid the novel coronavirus outbreak.

The Oatens monthly medal played today saw a full field of players, which Lismore Workers Golf Club President Tim Gilmore said was a "great result".

"We are experiencing record numbers, which is a welcome by-product of the government's social distancing directives," Gilmore told members.

"(Last) Thursday saw 138 players tee off in what is likely a record for our regular Thursday competition. As a result from 7 May, Thursday's tee times will revert to a 2 tee start to accommodate the field sizes, nice problem to have!"

A total of 320 rounds of competitive golf were played last Thursday and last Saturday.

The club has introduced "the pin devices for removing balls from the cup 'hands-free', which means the flags have been restored to the greens.

"I believe they received universal approval and are likely to be something that remains in place after COVID-19 is a memory. Thanks again to Steve Devlin and Josh for making it happen so quickly," said Gilmore.

With the demand for playing so great, the club has extended the Saturday competition into tomorrow.
