The Marist Brothers Rams will look to break a 22-year hoodoo after winning through to the 2025 NRRRL Grand Final.
The NRRRL competition was formed in 2005, and the club has not played in a Grand Final since Group 1 and Group 18 merged to create the competition.
The club last made a Grand Final in 2004, going down to Mullumbimby 14-12 and it has been a long wait for its players and supporters.
The Rams last won a Group 1 Grand Final in 2003, after defeating the South Grafton Rebels 42-41.
The Rams sealed their spot in this year's decider after a 20-6 victory over the Bilambil Jets at Crozier Field on Saturday.
The match started well for Brothers, with several seven-tackle sets handed to them after poor kicks from the Bilambil attack.
Although the Rams had repeat sets and the better of field position, they were unable to break the Jets defence in the first stanza.
It was Bilambil that scored first, with a try to prop Wade Ayres, which was converted by Josh Quinn, for the Jets to lead 6-0 after 26 minutes.
The Rams were then able to attack down the right-hand side, but unfortunately the final pass to winger Andrew Ferguson-Fitzgerald sailed into touch.
The attack was started to trouble the Jets defence, with a break by Kye Cooper putting Bilambil on the back foot and several offloads allowing the Rams to get over the advantage line.
Halfback Shallin Fuller takes on the Jets defence.
With just three minutes left in the first half, Mitchell Krause managed to dive over on the left wing to reduce the scoreline to 6-4 at the break.
The Rams came out in the second half with sting in their defence and it shook the Jets, with one tackle by Henry Lee even felt in the Old Boys section.
The Jets conceded a penalty for a high shot on halfback Shallin Fuller, who stepped up and converted for a 6-6 scoreline.
Marist Brothers Mitchell Krause crosses for his second try.
Another great tackle by the Rams defence pushed the Jets winger into touch and had the Rams on the attack, just 20m out.
Krause was again in the action in the ensuing play, crossing for a second time, in front of a vocal supporter base.
Fuller missed the conversion to keep the score at 10-6 to Brothers.
The halfback was again in the thick of the action, running the ball on the last tackle to be caught high by the Jets defence, earning himself another shot at penalty goal, converting for a 12-6 lead with 17 minutes on the clock.
A mix up and knock on, just centimetres from their tryline by Bilambil was dived on by Rams second rower Will Wooley for the sides third try.
Fuller converted the Wolley try to stretch the score out to 18-6 with 12 minutes to go and the crowd sensed the start of the fairytale could be taking shape.
A final penalty goal to Fuller in the dying moments sealed the 20-6 victory for the Rams and securing the first spot in the 2025 NRRRL First Grade Grand Final.
Marist Brothers will now await the result of Sunday's second Elimination Finals between Cudgen and Murwillumbah to determine the venue for the Grand Finals next Sunday.
If Minor Premiers Cudgen win, they will host the day but if Murwillumbah can cause an upset, then the Grand Finals will be hosted in Lismore by Marist Brothers.
This would give hometown teams, the Ramettes Ladies League Tag, Northern United's Women's Tackle and the Rams First Grade sides a great backdrop to secure titles.
