Rain doesn't dampen Lismore 's enthusiasm for Cup day

Even the adverse weather forecast cannot stop Lismore from enjoying Cup day 2022 with strong crowds flocking to the Lismore Turf Club for one of THE social days on the calendar.

Sure the ground is wet and there is consistent light rain but the strength and resolve of the people of Lismore to get together for a rare social gathering would be recognised and celebrated.

"I tip my hat to Lismore," said Scott Jones Secretary Manager of the Lismore Turf Club, "It just goes to show that everyone wants to get together."

The crowd were equally enthusiastic with comments like "Why would we let a little rain stop us from coming to the Cup" and "Nothing was going to stop me from coming today" were typical comments from the couple of thousand people who have braved the wet conditions.

The time-honoured Fashion of the Field event went ahead with several ladies putting fashion ahead of practicalities for the prestigious honour of being crowned Best Dressed and Best Fascinator.

Best dressed was Alani Ware who said she had been waiting two years for this moment. "I am very grateful to be the winner," Alani told the Lismore App.

The runner-up was Beth Power. "I feel fantastic. My outfit is in mourning for the late queen," Beth said.

The track moved to a heavy 8 but that didn't deter punters from having a bet and cheering their horse across the line.

The first was won by second favourite Swanston and the second by Rhythm Is A Dancer.

There was a fall during Race 2 with both horse and jockey ok, however, it was determined the track was not safe to continue so the rest of the race meeting was abandoned including the Lismore Cup.

In true Lismore style, that didn't stop the patrons from enjoying themselves as the afternoon wore on.
