With 21.4 mm of welcome rain already recorded in the Lismore Council area over the last few days, and more expected to fall this week, Lismore City council has announced that water restrictions in Nimbin will not be increased to Level 4 as had been planned.
Council said in a statement that it will continue to actively monitor the village’s water supply “with an eye on introducing Level 4 restrictions if water consumption does not fall”.
“The community has reduced its consumption, particularly since Sunday (down from 175 litres per person to 160 litres), but it is still short of the daily 150 litre target needed to maintain the village’s water supply,” Council said.
“Residents and businesses are urged to continue to reduce their current water consumption.
“Water flows in Mulgum creek are good at the moment thanks to the recent rain and extraction to DE Williams Dam is occurring at the maximum rate.
“Still, filling of the dam will take some time and requires continued rain occurring in the catchment area.”
