Queensland border reopens for the fully vaccinated

The Queensland State Government has released a roadmap for when the border will come down, albeit metaphorical, and we can finally see family and friends living in the sunshine state.

As is the case with NSW, the 70% double dose vaccination mark for Queenslanders is when restrictions begin to ease, this is predicted to be the 19th of November but could be earlier.

At 70% however, you need to be arriving from a declared 'non-hotspot' area or zone. At present, all of NSW is declared a hotspot so travelling to Queensland would require two weeks home quarantine or in a government nominated facility.

(The Qld Govt's map of Australian hot-spots. Current as of 20 October 2021)

So, unless the status for NSW changes, it is highly unlikely anyone from NSW will be making a quick trip across the border.

The 80% double dose vaccination mark is when the majority of Northern Rivers residents will be happy. This is expected to be on the 17th of December or earlier so just in time for Christmas.

At 80% anyone who is fully vaccinated and has returned a negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours can enter Queensland. If you are unvaccinated you need to meet the relevant entry requirements and isolate for 14-days.

When Queensland reaches 90% double dose travelling between NSW and Qld will be like the old days for those that are fully vaccinated. There will be no restrictions and no quarantine required. If you are not fully vaccinated the rules are as per the 80% mark. The Qld Govt has not made a prediction on timing for when 90% when will be reached.

There is a definition of conditions and terms at the end of this story.

Like the NSW roadmap, we are seeing signs of blue sky after an 18-month storm has disrupted our lives. 2022 is looking more positive, dare we think of a full-year without COVID interrupting our lives?
