NSW has recorded 1 new locally acquired COVID-19 case in the last 24-hours giving some happy Easter news to residents in Lismore and the North Coast of NSW.
This one case was the known male in his 20's that was confirmed yesterday but included in today's data.
Restrictions that were put into place at 5pm yesterday will remain active until the end of the Easter period on Monday April 5 when an update will be provided.
The following rules now apply to the local government areas of Lismore City Council, Tweed Shire Council, Ballina Shire Council, and Byron Shire Council:
• masks must be worn on public transport, in retail stores, and in all public indoor settings (this is for both staff and the public entering the business)
• the one person per 4 square metre rule applies at all public indoor settings including hospitality venues
• the number of household visitors is capped at 30, including at holiday rental properties.
NSW has been mirroring the Queensland Health restrictions for anyone in NSW who has been to Greater Brisbane since 20 March, and these people will also no longer be required to stay at home from this time (1pm local time).
While urgent investigations and contact tracing continue into the local case and the cases who visited Byron Bay from Queensland while infectious, NSW Health is adopting a cautious approach to minimise the risk of further transmission.
Premier Gladys Berejiklian said today "We are going to get these little blips and we need to be able to keep them as little blips."
The Premier also encouraged local residents to not travel outside your area but declared this will not be enforced.
Earlier today, Queensland Premier Annastcia Palaczszuk said she will lift the greater Brisbane lockdown from midday today Queensland time allowing Queenslanders to travel for their Easter holidays. This follows the announcement of 1 new community acquired COVID case in the last 24-hours. This case was directly linked to the Hens Party cluster and has been in isolation since Monday where she first tested negative with a positive test revealed on Wednesday.
The Premier has put in place the same restrictions for all of Queensland as NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian did yesterday for the four local shires in Northern NSW including Lismore. See above.
NSW Health last night issued an update on new venues of concern in the Byron Bay, Ballina and Lennox Head areas. Advice has also been updated for the Surfit 24/7 Epiq Gym at 5 Snapper Drive in Lennox Head.
Anyone who attended on Sunday 28 March between 8am and 10.30am is now considered a close contact who must immediately get tested and self-isolate for 14 days, regardless of the result.
The latest 'venues of concern' list is as follows:
CLOSE CONTACT: if you have been in one of these businesses on the day and time indicated you must immediately get tested and self isolate for 14 days regardless of the result.
CASUAL CONTACT: if you have been in one of these businesses on the day and time indicated you must immediately get tested and self isolate until you receive a negative result.
You are encouraged to check the NSW Health website for the latest list as more businesses get added due to ongoing contact tracing.
