At Pomstar, the music is good, the coffee is good – but most importantly, the haircuts are fabulous.
Last week, Pommie Pete and his hair salon partner Telea Byrne reopened Pomstar (Mark 2) in a new location on Keen Street.
“We are thrilled to be back and love the new space,” peter said
“There’s a great buzz in town - people are starting to get out and lots of shops are being worked on.”
After 32 years in the hair business, Pete said there was only a moment of doubt about whether he wanted to open up another shop again in Lismore.
“There a little bit of doubt about coming back, but I just love Lismore,” he said.
“It was pretty bad, but of course I’m coming back. In the 2017 flood, it was just a cleanup, but this time was all about repair.
“I know people will say it will flood again, but we can deal with that.
“It’s pretty flood proof now – it’s all concrete walls and the shelves click off the walls and we’ve even not bolted down the basins. We can get everything out in an hour.
“It’s been a mission getting here, but we love Lismore and the people.
“The help we’ve had was amazing – from someone bringing a nut and bolt for the basins - to someone driving to Grafton to pick up shelves for us.”
Just before the flood, Peter and Telea partnered in the business. While they were waiting for a new shop, they worked from home.
“That financially saved us, but now we are so glad to have a shop again,” Pete said.
The new shop is located near the corner of Keen Street and Magellan Street in what used to be another hair salon, St Hair.
“Sadly for them, they are not coming back, but it’s lucky for us,” Pete said
“Everything is in the right place for the salon - pipes plugs and basins.
“Since we opened, we’ve been inundated with work and are booked up two weeks or more ahead already.”
Pomstar is open Monday to Saturday, 9 to 5pm (with a late night on Thursday) and Saturday 9 to 1pm.
