Police make more progress on recent thefts as Operation Mongoose continues

Operation Mongoose conducted by Richmond Police District continues to make progress in reducing the number of thefts in the Northern Rivers with two more incidents in the last 24 hours that will lead to more charges being laid.

Chief Inspector Susie Johnston said police executed a search warrant in Coraki today and took possession of a number of property items relating to thefts in the police district. Enquiries are continuing.

In a separate incident earlier today (3am), Lismore police were engaged in a pursuit with a 2001 blue Holden Commodore while conducting patrols on the Bruxner Highway, West Ballina.

Initially, police tried to stop the vehicle which took off before having a minor collision on the roundabout of River Street and Burns Point Ferry Road.

A 17-year-old male then leapt from the vehicle and attempted to evade police but was apprehended shortly after. The man was taken to hospital for mandatory testing.

Police discovered the car was stolen from Casino. Charges are pending.

Operation Mongoose was launched on Monday (February 26) with four arrests in the first week.

Officers from Richmond Police District are looking to reduce the increasing trend of crime in the police district area.
