"Police were called this morning to a motor vehicle collision at Wardell. It was called in by a witness who was driving past at the time to work. Police arrived on scene and confirmed that there were four deceased in the vehicle."
Inspector (Insp.) Tanner said police, SES, the Rural Fire Service and Police Rescue were all called to the scene. The accident appeared to have happened a few hours earlier before being discovered.
"It is still under investigation at the moment in relation to their connection to each other. I can confirm they're all adults, we have one in their mid-20s, one in their 30s, one in their 40s and one in their 50s."
Insp. Tanner said police don't believe the vehicle was stolen but confirmed it is not registered locally.
"They are believed to have connections here to the Richmond Police District."
When asked whether speed or alcohol were factors, Insp. Tanner said it was too early into the investigation to determine the cause of the accident.
"It did occur on a sweeping left-hand bend in the road. It appears that it was driving around the bend in the road and has lost control and circumstances are that it has hit a tree."
"There is an indication that not all (people) were wearing seatbelts at the time of the collision. It appears there may have been at least two that weren't wearing a seat belt at the time."
As identification of the deceased is ongoing, family have yet to be notified.
