People living in Dunoon and the Channon will appreciate the good news that mobile phone towers in their area will now keep operating if the power goes out due to natural disasters.
Federal Member for Page Kevin Hogan said the Federal Government is funding mobile providers to extend the battery back up at 11 mobile phone towers in local communities, to provide a minimum of 12 hours of back-up power.
"Telecommunications, including mobile phone towers, need reliable power sources to operate," Mr Hogan said.
“This investment will allow mobile phone towers to keep operating for at least 12 hours after the power goes out, making a real difference for communities during and after a natural disaster.
“The Government is providing a total of $13.2 million to Telstra, Optus and TPG to extend the battery back up at 467 mobile phone towers across Australia, under stage one of the program.”
The list of Optus and Telstra rural phone towers in the Page electorate with the new backup power are as follows:
Optus towers at: Dunoon and North East of Nymboida will each get 15 hours of back up power, with Dunoon tower serving 295 local premises.
Telstra towers at: The Channon, Bonalbo, Brooms Head, Copmanhurst, Culmaran Creek, Ettrick, Hernani, Minnie Water and Piora will get 12 hours of back up power, with The Channon tower serving 275 local premises.
