A local creek was contaminated by a quantity of pesticide today, sparking an investigation by the NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA).
A spokeswoman from NSW Fire & Rescue said two crews were called to a private property on Kings Road in Eureka just before 1pm this afternoon.
“We were called to scene by the EPA,” she said. “There had been 20 litres of an unknown substance that had been poured into, or had gotten into the creek.
“The crews arrived at 2pm and found out the spill was pesticide.
“The EPA attended as well and the pesticide was pumped out of the creek.
“We are still trying to identify the exact chemical in the pesticide.
“The incident is being investigated by the EPA and the Fire Investigation Unit.
“The creek was on private land and we are still unsure if a resident did it. It is being discussed with the owners.”
