Both Labor and the Nationals have done deals in Page to get preferences from minor parties at the May 18 Federal Elections.

How to vote cards show that Labor and the Greens are swapping preferences while the Nationals and Clive Palmer’s United Australia Party are preferencing each other.

The Labor-Greens deal comes despite local Greens slamming Labor’s candidate Patrick Deegan for supporting plans to provide $1.5 billion for gas pipelines in the country’s north.

The Greens’ Page candidate Daniel Reid said the deal - which puts Labor ahead of the Animal Justice Party’s candidate Alison Waters - supported the party’s primary goals of building its vote and getting a change in government.

“In Page there is a very real chance to unseat the Nationals but it relies on the supporters and members of different parties sharing goodwill and working towards a common outcome,” Mr Reid said.

“I don't at all support the Labor announcement over the pipeline funding but for Patrick to win means a real shot at a Labor government, possibly in a minority position.”

The Nationals’ Page MP Kevin Hogan blasted criticism of the Coalition’s preference deals, which see them put the United Australia Party and Christian Democratic Party ahead of former Nat turned independent Fiona Leviny.

“This mock outrage from the Labor Party and the left on this given Labor preferenced the Shooters at the NSW State Election and got two Lower House MPs up over us I take as mock outrage,” Mr Hogan told the Lismore App.

He declined to make any further comment.
