With no fanfare or ribbon cutting the Material & Recovery Facility (MRF) at the Lismore Recycling & Recovery Centre re-opened in late October following last years fire and began sorting our own recyclable waste once again.

No longer do we have to send our recycled waste to Queensland, we can once again process in the East Lismore facility.

The MRF was damaged by fire in August 2019. The fire burnt for 10 days due to very dry and windy conditions causing extensive damage.

Council's insurance claim was successful so the rebuild of the $3.65 million dollar MRF could begin.

The MRF processes around 15,000 tonnes of recyclables per year. It separates, prepares recyclable materials to be sent off and made into new products.

Now that the MRF is operational, the Lismore App would like to help you understand exactly what you can and can't recycle. This question is asked by many household residents who are still very confused.

The NSW Environment Protection Authority has released a set of short videos explaining what is allowed and not allowed in your yellow recycle bin.

The Lismore App will publish one per day for 7 days called Let's Recycle Right.

Here is video 1 about recycling hard plastics and containers, steel & aluminium cans, glass bottles and jars, paper and cardboard.
