At the Our Kids fundraiser this Sunday, May 2, eight year old Ebony Duff will be presented with the Suzie Levot Memorial Memorial Our Kids Bravery Award.
The award recognises the courage of a local family and their young daughter, Ebony Duff who has spent time in the Children's Ward at Lismore Base Hospital.
Our Kids fundraising coordinator Rebekka Battista said Ebony has juvenile arthritis and has needed lots of trips to Lismore and Brisbane hospitals for care.
The Our Kids charity raises money for the Lismore Base Hospital Children’s Ward and for kids living in the broader Richmond Valley and further afield, so they can receive specialist medical care locally.
Lismore Base Hospital is the region’s major referral hospital and cares for more than 10,000 children a year in its Paediatric Unit, Special Care Nursery and Emergency Department.
"Ebony loves her guitar and is teaching herself how to play," Rebekka said.
"Ebony has shown incredible bravery during her hospital visits and still manages to smile and bring joy to the nurses who care for her.
"Ebony also features in the much loved Our Kids Calendar, as Miss December."
Ebony will be at the Our Kids Day Out fundraiser this Sunday, May 2 at Missingham Bridge Amphitheatre in Ballina, from 9am to 2pm.
“Ebony truly deserves to be centre stage at the Our Kids Day Out celebration,” Rebekka said.
“This day will be a great chance for families to enjoy free entertainment and meet the Emergency Services, so bring the family and a picnic blanket,” Rebekka said.
"As always, the day promises lots of fun for the whole family, with a range of live entertainment, including Newcastle Permanent who are presenting the main show ‘Blinky Bill” at 10am and 12pm.
"Awesome Adam, Rompin Stompin Show, Circus Stunt man, The Balloon Kings and The Wildlife Twins will be there, along with many more entertainers participating in this annual event."

This year, Our Kids has again invited the Emergency Services, so expect to see trucks, cars and boats located on a designated area at the park.
Children can see and learn about the vital services that help keep the community safe and rescue people in trouble. They will also meet some of the staff who work in the Children’s Ward.
