The CBD's first Op Shop reopening since the devastating February 28 floods is this morning at 9am when The Salvos slide open the doors on Carrington Street (just down from Cafe Capello).
While this in itself will excite a lot of Lismore shoppers, a brand new store layout will excite shoppers even more.
Captain Philip Sutcliffe from the Northern Rivers Salvos said, "What we have brought into Lismore is one of our flagship op shops. This is the latest in terms of our op shop layouts, design and how we actually do secondhand retail."
"Not only do we have all the secondhand stuff that people know and love but in our new Salvos stores we also have new products as well."
"Some of the basic essentials for everyday people. So, shampoo, conditioner, toilet paper, toothbrushes, socks and a whole run of Father's Day products for this weekend."
While that sounds good in itself, Philip added that major retailers are donating their end-of-season stock from around the country to the Salvos charities so there is a boutique section on the upper level of the new Salvos store that stocks brand new clothing.
When you walk into the Carrington Street store you instantly notice a difference from the pre-flood look and feel. It is very consumer retail friendly mostly thanks to the flood.
"After the 2017 flood, there was a big improvement in the way that this store was laid out and then again after this flood," Philip said, "It's a very modern, very clean look. Our staff and volunteers have done an amazing job getting this place stocked and ready to reopen. It looks amazing."
This is a far cry from when the Lismore App was in the store in May when there was an empty shell and mould on the walls. Now, the mould has been treated, the walls repainted and the doors ready to reopen to the public.
"We would have opened six weeks ago but like so many places, we hit delays getting shop fittings, new point of sale systems and those kind of things due to lack of supply. It's been a bit of a long journey but we're now here and ready to open."
When you walk into the new Salvos op shop, you will notice that everything is very clearly signed so you don't have to aimlessly search through racks of clothing that is not relevant to you. Plus each week there will be a 50% off sale.
"Customers coming into the store should look for the mannequins above each rack. Every week they will change colour so the easiest way to know what is 50% off is to look at the mannequin."
"For opening day today, we'll have 50% off our yellow ticketed items and then our blue tagged signs have items marked down to $2."
There is more good news for pensioners and students with discounts available on different days. Thursday will see pensioners and seniors get 20% off when you show your pension, seniors, veterans or healthcare card while students save 20% on Wednesdays when they show their student card.
For those that have been waiting to donate goods to the Salvos once again, you can from 9am this morning. For clothing and small soft goods, you can deposit them in the red bins at the front of the store and for the larger items and furniture, this can be dropped off at the back of the store via Eggins Lane as previously done.

So, there you have it. Op shoppers get ready to check out the new look Salvos store at 14 Carrington Street, Lismore CBD (just down from Cafe Cappello). The hours have been extended to 9am to 5pm six days a week with Sundays closed.
