Former One Direction singer Liam Payne has died outside a hotel in the Argentine capital Buenos Aires, local newspaper La Nacion reports.

The 31-year-old British musician was found dead after falling from the hotel's third floor, the newspaper said, citing emergency services.

Payne was one of the founding members of One Direction, one of the most successful boy bands of the past decade.

The group was formed during the British talent show The X Factor and quickly gained international fame with hits like What Makes You Beautiful and Story of My Life. 

Alongside Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, and Zayn Malik, Payne helped the British band rise to global stardom.
