At a recent food awards event in Sydney, Lismore's donut franchise OMG Decadent Donuts, won a silver medal at the best-tasting Cinnamon Donut competition.
The competition was held during the massive Baking Association of Australia trade show and conference in Sydney, with bakers from all over Australia entering.
Owner of the OMG Decadent Donuts Lismore franchise, Bree Heatherington, who co-owns the business with her husband David McDonald, said it's not surprising their donut was so highly rated
"They taste so good because they are made from a range of unique handcrafted sugars, made from the freshest Australian fruits, spices and even vegetables," said Bree.
"Additionally, they can also be enjoyed by people with dietary requirements, food intolerances or food allergies like vegan or free from gluten, dairy, egg, yeast, wheat, nuts and sulphites."
"They taste great and come in 12 flavours with dehydrated fruits and spices. So yeah, there's nothing artificial, and it can be enjoyed by anyone, even if you do not have any allergies."
Bree also said how the donuts were judged makes the award much more genuine.
"The highly respected judges did blind tests of all entries, which means that they had no idea of the ingredient list or anything about the donuts," she said.
"They judged it based on taste and texture, like how light and fluffy they were. They had no idea that our OMG! Decadent Donuts were vegan or free from gluten, dairy, egg, yeast, wheat, nuts and sulphites."

Bree said she enjoys running the business in Lismore, especially attending events where the donuts are popular.
"We are blown out of the water how well the donuts are received, especially because of the number of people who have an allergy or intolerance to donuts," she said.
"Giving people an alternative who normally can't eat donuts, is an excellent feeling. By word of mouth, our name spread. We cover the many events in our region and also attend markets".
Bree also said she would love to expand into a shop.
"Originally, we wanted to go into a shop; however, due to the flood, we are using this trailer, which allows us to travel around," she said.
"I love making these donuts, I could do it forever, so I can't wait to see where this takes us."
