The much-anticipated Oceania Cup Football Tournament is set to take place on 5-6 October in Alstonville.

This event is a celebration of girls' and women's football, attracting teams and fans from across the Northern NSW and Southern Queensland.

Established in 2013 by the Alstonville Football Club, the Oceania Cup has become a cornerstone event in the female football calendar.

This year marks the tournament's 10th edition, as it was not held in 2020 or 2021 due to the Covid pandemic.

The tournament has gained remarkable popularity, especially this year, following the success and excitement around the Australian Matildas team after a home World Cup and the recent Paris Olympics.

Registrations for the tournament opened on August 21, and the response was overwhelming.

All senior team spots were filled in less than a week, reflecting the growing enthusiasm for women's football.

This year's tournament features junior teams in Grade 12, Grade 14, and Grade 16 pools, while the senior teams will compete in Open A, B, and C pools.

The Open A pool will showcase the talents of NPL, Premiership, and 2nd league players, while the Open B pool will feature players from the 3rd, 4th, and 5th leagues. Open C, a new addition for 2024, includes players over the age of 35.

Teams are travelling from far and wide to participate, including those from Brisbane, Surfers Paradise, Palm Beach, Springfield, Leichhardt Sydney, and Tweed Heads, as well as local teams from Alstonville, Byron Bay, Casino, Ballina, Dunoon, Maclean, Northern Rivers Football, and Goonellabah.

Games will kick off at 9am and run until 9pm on both Saturday and Sunday, offering spectators the chance to witness high-quality female football while enjoying the charm of Alstonville.

The Oceania Cup is proudly sponsored by local businesses and organisations: Wollongbar Tavern, Collins Hume Accountants & Business Advisors and Football Far North Coast. This collaborative community effort makes the tournament a fantastic way to conclude the football season and celebrate female participation in the sport.
