NSWRA buyback houses continue to sell at auction

The fourth NSW Reconstruction Authority (NSWRA) buyback auction was another success last night at the Lismore Heights Sports Club.

All 10 properties listed sold. The cheapest was a 2-bedroom house at 12 Hallam Street, North Lismore, which sold for $6,000, while the most expensive was the last house on the list at 31 Orion Street. It sold for $60,000.

The average price was around $45,000, and the total raised for the NSWRA on the night was $361,000.

Purchasers now have 12 months to relocate their new house to flood-free land.

As has been the case previously, there was one multiple buyer, with three houses, while the others were purchased by individuals.

The three cheapest houses ($11,000, $14,000 and $6,000) were not renovated, while the most expensive, Orion Street, had 4 bedrooms and a renovated kitchen and bathroom.

After the first house, 29 Cathcart Street, was sold for $46,000, one registered bidder left mumbling, "This is too rich for me".

There were 24 registered bidders on the night, only three fewer than at the third auction last month.

Two bidders who were unsuccessful but active during the night said they will be back next month, knowing there will be more opportunities to purchase and move a Resilient Homes Program buyback house.

They, along with more interested parties, will return in October to the Lismore Heights Sports Club.
