NSW, featuring former Far North Coast Hockey player Tom Brown, are into the semi-finals of Hockey Australia's Men's Under 21 Championship at Hepburn Park, Goonellabah late this afternoon.
NSW, who are coached by Grafton-born former Kookaburra player Brent Livermore, will meet South Australia at the Far North Coast Hockey fields at 3pm tomorrow. NSW beat South Australia 3-2 in Pool B last Thursday.
The winner will face either Western Australia or Victoria in the final on Wednesday.
In the Women's Under 21 Championships, Queensland met South Australia in the second semi-final at 11am tomorrow. Victoria meet South Australia in the first semi-final at 9am.
Hockey Australia CEO Matt Favier told the Lismore App that the national selectors are in Lismore looking for the next generation of players who will be in contention to play for the Kookaburras and Hockeyroos.
"Hockey has a really strong connection to regional Australia and we are really committed to take the game out of the major cities," he said.
"Having the great facilities at Lismore and Ballina means we are thrilled to bring the Masters and the Under 21 Championships to Lismore. It is a great experience for us."
