Goonellabah gets its first laundromat when the Goonellabah Laundromat opens in The Village Goonellabah shopping centre today.

Until now, residents had to travel to East Lismore, the CBD or South Lismore to do a load of washing.

Owners Dave and Stacey Russell said they wanted to set up a business that added value and service to the community.

"It's been twelve months since we had the idea," Stacey said, "We felt there was a gap in the market in Goonellabah."

"This will take the pressure of people and businesses alike not to have to travel into town to do some washing if you can't afford a linen service. This is a very convenient location."

An interesting element of the laundromat is a dedicated pet bedding and blanket washing machine.

"Pet lovers will be happy. Not everyone wants to wash their dog's or cat's bedding and blanket in the same machine they wash their clothes," Stacey added.

"Our machines will fit horse blankets too."

For shift workers, there is the convenience of using the laundromat 24/7 by the use of key fob. For a $50 deposit, you can come and go as you please depending on your hours and lifestyle.

The Goonellabah Laundromat will be open between 7am and 9pm 7-days a week.

Any of the machines will accept cash or card except for the washing powder/liquid dispenser which only takes gold coins ($2 per wash).

There are three different sizes of machines, starting with the $6 wash which will hold 2 full washing baskets of clothes. You then step up to the $9 wash for 3 baskets, $13 wash for 4 baskets or the $18 wash which can handle 6 baskets, enough to fit the largest family.

You will have a Super Wash option for a dollar which gives your clothes an extra rinse.

The dryers are $1 for 5 minutes so $6 would give you 30 minutes which is the average load drying time, each holding 3 baskets of washing. There are two larger dryers holding 5 baskets of washing.

The details of how to use each machine and dryer are clearly marked on the walls above the machines.

For security purposes, the laundromat has been fitted with security cameras.
