The CBD has brand new gym opening today, you can find Stepz Fitness on the ground floor of Centro Shopping Centre behind the escalators where Rivers used to be.
Sam Waller is the man behind Stepz Fitness.
Stepz Fitness has all brand new cardio and weight machines as well as a Functional Group Training Room.
"When I started in fitness 11 years ago as a Personal Trainer the big gripe I had with the 24/7 gym industry was that we couldn't give results and that community feel with only individual access", Sam said.
"I wanted to help people on a larger scale and focus on them getting results and functional training affords us that".
"The Functional Group Training room is where we will run classes that involve cardio, high intensity, boxing and yoga. "It's a mix of mind and body".
Classes start at 6am with Stepz Fit, Hllt and Strong, then there are mothers classes at 9:30 and a class for Seniors on Fridays at 8:30am. After work classes start at 5:30pm.
Sam doesn't have creche facilities as yet but is flexible about having kids in the room during the class.
"Starting costs are pretty big with COVID, it's an extra staff member that we just can't afford in the early stages. I'd love to offer a creche if we could".
"We've got the best trainers in Lismore including Alyce Benson who has been in the industry for 14 years and recently retired NRL star Will Bugden"
How is Stepz Fitness different from other 24/7 gyms?
"I am a fan of the community aspect of gyms. We work on the motto that everyone is welcome".
"We want this to be a no ego, non-intimidatory environment where people can come do a class or wight circuit then sit down at our communal table near reception and have a chat and socialise before they leave".
"We don't want Stepz Fitness to be a place where you just come and do a quick workout and leave. We encourage people to sit down have a coffee and relax and talk to other people so it's all about community.
"We will support people through their goals whatever they maybe".
OPENING TIMES
Stepz Fitness will be a 24/7 gym once COVID is over and the NSW Government restrictions have eased. Like many 24/7 gyms you now have to have a COVID Marshal present during opening hours so for 24/7 gyms this not sustainable financially.
The hours of operation are;
Monday to Thursday: 4am to 10pm
Friday: 4am to 8pm
Saturday: 7am to 5pm
Sunday: 8am to 11:30am
What costs are involved?
"I want to make it as affordable as we can with a cap on the number of members that Stepz Fitness can have".
There is a foundation rate $12.95 per week for 24/7 access to the gym.
Functional Group Training is $24.95 per week for unlimited classes.
If you are a government worker Stepz Fitness accepts Fitness Passport which give you reduced fees.
Stepz Fitness open their doors at 9am this morning until 1pm so get along and check out the brand new exercise machines like the stair master, cross trainers, treadmills and weight machines as well as the functional group training room.
