Jon Gibbons Lismore City Council's new General Manager was introduced to the media today at council chambers in Goonellabah.
The word used most often and for very good reason was 'stability'.
Mayor Steve Krieg introduced Mr Gibbons by acknowledging the challenge of the last twelve months and Mr Gibbons will be the start of the Lismore rebuild.
"Today is the start of a real collective push forward for the organisation to come together and work as a team with the community and for the community to strive to make Lismore the best regional centre in Australia. I've said that often and I'll keep saying that because if we don't have that goal what are we doing here?"
"I believe now we've got the executive team in place to achieve that goal in the future. We've got councillors who are fully supportive of the appointment of Jon which is probably a first in a long time to have unanimous support for the appointment of a GM."

It really is such an exciting time for the organisation of council and for the city of Lismore to have such a united front moving with all councillors on board."
Mayor Krieg is referring to the fact that Mr Gibbons will be the sixth Lismore City Council General Manager in six years and this appointment will be the start of a period of stability in the GMs chair because all 11 councillors were unanimous in their vote.
Mr Gibbons started his address by saying he was really honoured to be appointed to the role of GM and that he certainly "intends to be here for a long time and provide stability to the organisation."
Mr Gibbons was asked the inevitable question of how he would be able to provide more stability to the role.
"I don't know the reasons why people have left in the past. I plan to be here longer than a twelve-month term. I will work very hard to ensure that is the case. I'll work closely with councillors and the mayor and our organisation to ensure I'm doing the things which will ensure that my stay is a longer one. Whatever that may take. I'm prepared to do the hard yards, I'm a worker and I'll do what it takes to ensure that the stability is here in the organisation and I hope to be part of that journey."
Questions were asked about council's financial position, where the rebuild was at in terms of asset renewal but it is Day 2 for Mr Gibbons so naturally, he needs more time to get his head around all the different elements of what is a very complex situation for Lismore City Council.
"I need to understand a lot that's been going on. I've come from the City of Gold Coast, and I've come from other councils in Queensland, none of whom have experienced a disaster of the magnitude that Lismore has. So, there's a lot for me to learn very quickly but I hope I'll be able to use my skills to work with council to make the lives of people and our facilities and infrastructure that's been so badly damaged, return it to a better shape than it was before."
"I recognise that that's a long journey. I'm a person who's a strong believer in team work and we've got lots of great people who will be able to work alongside me to be able to achieve that."
We can tell you Mr Gibbons has moved into the Lismore LGA with his wife and dog and they are still enjoying the unpacking phase of moving house.
