Police Highway Patrol are warning motorists to not obscure their number plates by putting their bikes on the back of their cars.
Richmond District Police have reported more people are riding their pushbikes as the days are getting hotter and longer.
“Unfortunately, Police Highway Patrol are seeing more and more people putting their bikes on the back of their cars and obscuring their number plates,” a Richmond District Police Facebook statement said.
“Upon speaking to some drivers, it becomes apparent they are intentionally obscuring their plates in order to avoid police discovering information about the car and the driver.
“If you are taking the bikes out, please make sure your number plate is not obscured in any way.
“The fine for doing so in the $400 range.
“You can get a small plate from the RMS at a fraction of the cost of a fine.
“Also, writing your plate number on a piece of cardboard simply won't cut it.
“Please share this information with someone who puts their bikes on the back of their cars.
“It may save them from copping a large fine.”
