Daughter of missing man James Hunter, now aged 53yrs old, a known hitchhiker, has reached out to local pages in the hopes that she might find her Dad.

She told us "nothing has come up in two years from the police search, so I'm going to try do what I can, myself". James went missing nearly two years ago from Western NSW, where he worked on rural properties in Dubbo, Mendooran and Dunedoo. He lived in the Newcastle suburb of Tighes Hill but was known to frequent the Northern Rivers and may have hitched a ride from Coraki to Wyrallah and then on to Lismore Transit Station aiming for a bus to Tweed Heads last Saturday between 1-4pm.

His daughter, Chloe lives in the NSW North Coast area and has a message for her Dad, saying "I just want to know you are safe and well, please contact me, you know how, I love you".

Chloe tells us he usually kept his hair short, but could potentially have a beard. The possible sighting of James last Saturday was of a man in long-sleeved fluoro's, of medium build and slightly overweight carrying a small backpack and a shoebox.

Dubbo police have also told media outlets that "He was also known to frequent Walgett and Lightning Ridge where he would mine for opals".

"He maintained contact with his family, who last saw him in person in December 2019 in the Newcastle area.

After failing to make contact with them for several months, James was reported missing to police in July 2021".

Officers from Orana Mid-Western Police District commenced numerous inquiries and have conducted searches for James since that time, however, he has not been located. As part of inquiries, police have established James was last seen at a pharmacy on Macquarie Street in Dubbo on Friday February 28, 2020, and he has not accessed his bank accounts since then.

Police and family continue to hold concerns for James’ welfare, and are now seeking information from the public in relation to his whereabouts.

James is described as being Caucasian in appearance, about 175cm tall, of a medium build with brown hair and eyes.

His vehicle – a blue 2005 Toyota Hilux utility with NSW registration DVR-16B – has not been located.

Anyone who has information in relation to James’ whereabouts or of relevance to the investigation is urged to contact Dubbo Police Station on 02 6883 1599 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
