The NSW SES has issued a minor flood watch for the Wilsons River which based on modelling predictions has a 75% chance of occurring.
The trough moving into northern NSW from Queensland has generated rain in the hills with Nimbin recording 35mm since midnight. It is impossible to get official Lismore rainfall figures due to the rain gauges being out of action still, however, the Lismore App was told 15mm in a part of East Lismore.
"River level rises have been observed from recent moderate rainfall in the Northern Rivers. Further moderate showers expected on Thursday (today) may see river levels rise to minor flood levels."
"The Bureau is continuing to monitor the situation and will issue further catchment specific warnings if and when required.
"Catchment soil moisture is average.
"The weather system is expected to cause flooding for the catchments listed. Flood Classes (minor, moderate, major) are only defined for catchments where the Bureau provides a flood warning service.
"What we are expecting:
Based on this prediction there is a 75% chance of flooding developing in the following catchments:
Low-lying areas next to watercourses are inundated. Minor roads may be closed and low-level bridges submerged. In urban areas inundation may affect some backyards and buildings below the floor level as well as bicycle and pedestrian paths. In rural areas removal of stock and equipment may be required.
The Bureau of Meteorology is also forecasting more rain early next week 5-25mm on Tuesday and 2 to 15mm on Wednesday.
The next report from NSW SES is expected tomorrow (Friday) at 2:30pm.
