The old Lismore Men's and Community Shed in Norco Lane, South Lismore has been broken into again, the second time in six weeks.
In early January, thieves stole $10,000 worth of items that were being stored in the shed while the new East Lismore shed was being established and sorted.
The good news is that the thieves only got a pair of bolt cutters for their latest efforts and some ride-on lawn mower keys. Former President Don Abraham explained that there were some ride-on lawnmowers stored in another part of the shed. "I think that was their objective, to cut the padlock and knock off the lawnmowers, that's why they were moved today."
"We just don't have the kind of money to replace stuff like that."
The Lismore Men's and Community Shed generated some much need cash from their first Monster Garage Sale in December which was so successful they are holding another this Saturday (February 25) from 8am.
Don and the team have also received a lot more generous donations from the community so this weekend's garage sale is going to be much bigger than December's.
"The public stepped up for us again. We have had fantastic community support, it just overwhelms you."
"As you can see we've got furniture, there's a beautiful silky oak desk, we've electrical appliances, knickknacks, you name it, we've got it."
"This is a fundraiser to try and keep the place going."
Like all charitable organisations, the Lismore Men's and Community Shed needs to pay for everyday bills with electricity being the largest cost associated with their day-to-day operations. The volunteers decided that regular garage sales is the way they will generate enough cash.
As you can see by the photo, if the generous people of Lismore keep donating items they may need to get a bigger shed.
The Lismore Men's and Community Shed Monster Garage Sale is on this Saturday, 25 February from 8am until 12 midday at 15 Industry Drive, East Lismore (opposite Rifle Range Road).
Malcolm Shoesmith will be running the garage sale and advises that if you turn up before 8am the gates will be shut.
