We’re a long way from Melbourne but Lismore locals can still grab a piece of race day action and flare for tomorrow’s world-famous Melbourne Cup.
Mary G’s is offering live music, free drink on arrival and a chance to have a flutter in their sweep. And, of course, all the live action from Flemington on multiple screens.
Manager Cath said “My mum comes in and helps people write out tickets. We have a two-course or three-course meal available. We’ve got sweepstakes and a soloist playing. It’s all happening.”
“It would be great if people come out to support us. If they want to get dressed up too…and there’s a help desk if people don’t know how to bet,” Cath added.
Miss Lizzie’s on Woodlark Street are also welcoming guests to join in the glamour by dressing up and trying their tapas banquet lunch menu. Jugs of sangria also available.
Anna from Miss Lizzie’s said that guests have a chance to join in sweeps which will start from 1130 and the usual lunchtime menu will be available to order as well.
“We do something every year. All throughout the place we’ve got screens. We’ve also got the Terrace Bar and Public Bar open so all three dining areas are open. We’ll be ready,” said Anna.
For those not able to get out and about, the Our Kids Melbourne Cup Luncheon Virtual could be a winner and a way to donate to one of our renowned local charities.

The Melbourne Cup is Australia’s most important thoroughbred horse race, and Melbourne Cup history is rich, dating back from the inaugural event in 1861 through until today’s 2021 Melbourne Cup on Tuesday November 2, 2021.
The race is held over a distance of 3,200 metres, the traditional two-mile cup distance, for horses three years and older and is the richest and most prestigious “two-mile” handicap in the world.
Fondly called “The Race that Stops a Nation”, Melbourne Cup Day is a public holiday in metropolitan Melbourne.
