Lismore has another Australian representative baseballer, and his future is bright.
Billy McCarthy has achieved a remarkable milestone by being selected to represent Australia in the 2025 WBSC U-12 Baseball World Cup, set to take place in Tainan, Taiwan, from July 25 to August 3.
Billy is the sole representative from NSW Country on the national team, highlighting his exceptional talent and dedication to the sport.
Billy plays locally for Norths in the FNC Baseball competition and has a huge future ahead of him, training hard with his brothers and father, Clint.
The WBSC U-12 Baseball World Cup is a prestigious international tournament that brings together the world's top young baseball talents.
The 2025 edition will feature 12 teams divided into two groups. Australia has been placed in Group A alongside powerhouse nations such as Japan (World No. 1), Chinese Taipei (No. 2), Mexico (No. 4), Cuba (No. 10), and Germany (No. 17).
Australia will play the tournament's first match, when they take on Mexico on Day 1.
Australia secured its spot in this elite competition by triumphing in the Oceania Qualifier held in Guam in December 2024. The team clinched victory in a decisive final against Guam, winning 19-4, which earned them their fifth appearance in the U-12 World Cup.
