After spending a huge amount of money on getting Mary G's reopen after the big Flood in 2022, the Waratah Hotel Group, the owners of Mary G's, are spending another $700,000 on giving the iconic pub a facelift.
Plans lodged with Lismore City Council show Mary G's will freshen up its advertising and signage as well as turn the Bistro Dining area into a Beer Garden.
Most of the internal improvements are at the back of the building, the Keen Street end.
The artist's impression shows a new look Mary G's that will certainly turn local heads when complete.
This is similar to the Northern Rivers Hotel which was given a facelift as part of its flood rebuild by the Durheims in North Lismore recently.
The other noticeable change for Mary G's looks to be the change above the bottle shop with the Bistro Dining area turned into a Beer Garden.
There is the addition of a children's playground where the storage and stage are and a change to the existing toilets.
The bar moves to the car park side of the building and a pizza station is next to a new set of stairs now in the middle of the room next to a new kitchen layout.
The car park is not left out with a new layout and wheel stops.
Mary G Manager Cath Simes told the Lismore App the beer garden will have a roof over it so you won't get wet.
"It does rain a fair bit in Lismore so we wanted to leave the roof on and instead big bi-fold doors will open up to Keen Street. We'll have cabana-style seating and woodfired pizza on offer with the kids playground."
"We want to be a family-friendly venue, we are not a nightclub anymore. This has always been in the pipeline and now we can put the finishing touches to our rebuild. Downstairs is done and now it's time for upstairs."
"We're trying to bring people into the CBD and you want there to be multiple venues in the CBD."
Cath praised Lismore City Council staff and said once the DA is approved the rebuild will be done 'bit by bit'.
"We need the back section for functions. I'd love it to take six months to complete but realistically I think it will be nine to twelve months. It will definitely be finished this year."
Apart from the owners who have added value to their assets, the people of Lismore are the big winners with the LGA landscape improving its aesthetics which have often been criticised in the past, especially the CBD facades around the block.
Is the February 28 big flood providing the opportunity for our city to revitalise and refresh its appearance? The silver lining.
